There have been countless times in my life where I heard God telling me not to be afraid, that He was with me. I find it a curious thing that He always says, “I am with you.” The promise of His presence is what brings me peace and helps me to refocus my trust back on Him instead of trying to control the externals. We all face numerous situations each day where we get to choose to trust God or let fear rule the day.
When fear reigns, it brings disease, it destroys families, and it separates us from the awareness of God’s presence. We can become so used to walking in fear that we don’t even know we are doing it. When this happens, we become focused on what we are afraid of, and God’s presence gets lost in the fog of fear. One of the keys to overcoming fear is to know what it looks like in our own lives, so we can then move toward uncovering the lies it’s telling us. Then we can reject these lies and embrace God’s truth, instead of trying to control things, in order to bring peace. This is the core lie of fear, get control of the situation or person and everything will be okay. Control means I trust in me, faith means I trust in God’s plan.
I pray we can let God be our strength, and release our need for control. Trust God or trust in your controlling it. I chose God today, how about you?
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
